How Can stabbing Abdominal Pain Be Treated?

Hi, I have short stabbing pains in my left side of my abdomen, just in from my hip bone. This sensation has been with me on and off for a year, but the last couple of months it has been worse. I am 45. It seems to be worse during my period, but sometimes it also happens around ovulation time. It comes like a shiver sometimes, and gets sharper, to disappear, and come back a few minutes later. Any clues?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Could be many things, e.g. retrograde menstruation, endometriosis or an ovarian cyst. I suggest you see a gynaecologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
